Do you sell to private customers as well as schools?
Yes - anybody may purchase our products, providing they pay for the goods in advancel.
How quickly will I get my order?
We aim to dispatch all orders within five working days but normally dispatch within 24hrs.
What is the format and size of a songbook?
All songbooks and showpacks are ISO A4 (210mm x 297mm). Contents are laser printed onto high-quality 120gsm, bright white 100% recycled paper. Front and back covers are 300gsm gloss coated card. Books are wire spiral bound enabling 360 degree opening. The paper we use is tougher than that used in many music books and stands up well to heavy use.
What music scores are provided?
Standard typeset notation scoring for piano with vocal line, lyrics and chords. Lyrics are additionally presented in large fonts on separate song sheets and in Microsoft PowerPoint file format for instant OHP projection (CD-ROM option). Piano parts are not reductions of complex tracks, but simplified parts specifically designed to be playable by students and teachers with modest pianistic ability.
Can we buy the CDs separately?
Yes - additional rehearsal CDs may be purchased in packs of 5, 10 and 15 providing you have already purchased the relevant songbook or showpack.
Can lyrics or music scores be photocopied?
Not unless you have an appropriate licence. Organisations registered with CCLI may reproduce lyrics and sheet music providing they declare such in returns to CCLI. Non-CCLI registered organisations must contact SongZone in the first instance for authorisation. Sheet music exceptionally may be copied to facilitate page turns for performance purposes only.
Can we use our OHP projector?
Yes - our optional CD-ROMs contain Microsoft PowerPoint files of lyric sheets for instant projection within the classroom. A CCLI reproduction licence will be needed if you wish to use OHP in assemblies or performance of any kind. Non-CCLI registered organisations should contact SongZone for authorisation.
Are performance licences required?
Yes - all shows require a public performance licence issued by SongZone if they are to be performed in public. To make things easier we include the cost of an initial public performance licence with each show. Please note this licence lasts 12 months from the date of purchase, but you can renew at any time in the future by simply contacting our sales team. Public performance of songs from songbooks does not require a performance licence, but you will need to ensure appropriate PRS returns are made in accordance with local procedures.
Do we have to pay an additional licence fee if we already have PRS licensing?
The price of every SongZone showpack includes the cost of an initial 12 month public performance licence. You will only need to pay for an additional licence if you wish to perform any show again after the initial licence has expired. Additional licensing for shows is required because this area is not covered by PRS. Performance of songs from SongZone songbooks is covered by your PRS licence. Please contact us directly if your school does not have a PRS licence.
Can we change the music, lyrics or scripts?
Scripts can be adapted to suit your needs but music and lyrics must not be altered without our written permission.
Can we make recordings of our performances?
Anybody can make an audio recording of our songs provided they obtain permission from us first and providing they contact MCPS to obtain an appropriate licence (see www.prsformusic.com). However you must NOT use the backing tracks for this purpose unless prior licensing has been agreed with the owner of the tracks (SongZone Records) - please contact us in the first instance to discuss your requirements. This restriction also applies to video recordings of performances where SongZone backing tracks have been used.
What do you mean by public performance?
Any performance by any school or organisation in front of an invited audience of any kind is deemed to be a public performance, regardless of whether tickets are sold or whether public notices and advertisements have been placed. Thus, attendance by parents, siblings, other schools/organisations etc at a performance renders such an event 'public', even if the public at large are not permitted entry. The only time a performance is not deemed public is if the audience comprises only of pupils and teachers at the same school (or similar for other organisations).
Can we charge for tickets?
Yes! If you also wish to sell CDs for profit during the interval please contact us to discuss your requirements.
Do we have to pay a licence fee even if we allow free admission?
Yes - by definition this is still a public performance, though the cost of an initial public performance licence is included in the price of each show.
Can we loan our pack to other schools?
Whilst we're happy for schools to temporarily exchange materials for evaluation purposes any loaning, borrowing and transfer of packs between individuals, schools and organisations for performance purposes would undermine our business, so if you value what we do then please support us by encouraging everyone to get their own pack!
