Duplication of audio CD and CD-ROM
The musical works
embodied in each audio CD have been registered with various authorities such as
PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited), MCPS (Mechanical Copyright Protection
Society) and PRS (Performance Rights Society). As such they are subject to
strict international copyright laws and reproduction management, which means
that any duplication, 'ripping' or transfer is illegal - do not copy your audio
CD or allow others to do so. Please note that packs of additional rehearsal CDs
may be purchased from SongZone. SongZone CD-ROMs are sold to the purchaser under
licence which permits transfers to multiple PC systems within a single school or
organisation.
Reproduction of lyrics, sheet music and script
Lyrics,
sheet music and scripts are copyrighted works such that any unauthorised
reproduction is illegal under international law. As holders of the original
copyright, SongZone Music Publishing grants certain exemptions to this as
detailed below. Schools and other organisations that do not possess a current
CCLI licence but wish to reproduce lyrics, sheet music or scripts should contact
SongZone.
Exemptions permitting limited reproduction
● SongZone lyrics, sheet music and scripts may be reproduced within an educational organisation for teaching purposes. To assist in this, PDF files of lyrics, sheet music and scripts, along with Microsoft PowerPoint presentations of lyrics suitable for OHP projection are available on an optional CD-ROM.
● SongZone permits limited reproduction of sheet music to facilitate page turns for performance.
● Purchasing organisations possessing an appropriate CCLI licence (Christian Copyright Licensing Ltd) may reproduce sheet music and lyrics providing use of songs is logged on returns to CCLI.
Public Performance of Songs
Performances of SongZone
songs on school premises which are attended by anybody other than staff and
pupils are deemed public performances. This principle applies to any other
organisation inviting others to performances, regardless of whether admission
fees are charged or not. Schools and other organisations performing music in
public normally hold a PRS licence permitting them to do so, in which case all
local procedures should be followed for reporting SongZone song use. Schools and
other organisations not holding a valid PRS licence should contact SongZone
directly.
Public Performance of Shows
An initial public performance
licence is issued with the purchase of each show. The licence is limited to use
within a single school or organisation for a specified show and expires 12
months from the date of purchase. Purchasers may undertake any number of public
performances of the same show during this period. The licence may easily be
renewed on expiry by purchasing an extension from SongZone. Shows must not
continue to be performed in public without a current licence. Each show requires
a separate licence.
Recording of SongZone Songs
Anybody wishing to make sound
recordings of SongZone songs must obtain permission from SongZone in the first
instance and apply for an appropriate MCPS licence (details may be found at
www.prsformusic.com). SongZone backing tracks are the mechanical property of an
associated organisation (SongZone Records) and must not be embodied in any sound
recording unless licensing arrangements have been agreed with both SongZone
Music Publishing and SongZone Records.
Videoing of SongZone Shows/Songs
Videoing of performances
of SongZone songs and shows (and subsequent non-commercial
broadcasting/webcasting) for archival purposes or non profit-making distribution
within the purchasing school or organisation is permitted providing
authorisation has been obtained from SongZone in the first instance. Videoing
for commercial or profit-making ventures is strictly prohibited unless prior
licensing arrangements have been agreed with both SongZone Music Publishing and
SongZone Records.
